NADA

The NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol is a specific application of acupuncture used primarily for addictions and behavioral health issues, including weight loss. It was developed in the 1970s by Dr. Michael Smith, a physician at Lincoln Hospital in New York, as a supportive modality for individuals recovering from substance abuse.

Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine practice, involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and balance energy flow (Qi). The NADA protocol focuses on five specific acupuncture points located in the outer ear. These points are known to have a calming and grounding effect on the mind and body, making it useful for reducing cravings, managing withdrawal symptoms, and supporting overall emotional well-being.

For addictions, including drugs and alcohol, the NADA protocol is often utilized as part of comprehensive addiction treatment programs. It can help reduce anxiety, agitation, and cravings associated with withdrawal, making it easier for individuals to navigate the early stages of recovery.
